40 40 flushing..How Often
« on: February 12, 2018, 08:39:11 pm »
How often do you guys recommend flushing your 40 40 Membranes, and for how long.

Was also thinking of getting a auto flush which I believe you can buy, but Ive no idea where to get one from or how to fit them..??.

Cheers

I have not flushed my 4040 for the past 6 years. Apparently when you are producing water you are flushing the 4040. I am pretty sure thats what June at Gaps water said. But then saying that I buy a new 4040 approx every 18 months due to the due TDS we run here in Bucks. Its a small cost compared to the price of resin..

I used to flush for 5-10 mins once a week, but now i dont really see the reason for it so dont really bother .  However when i first switch it on, i have a bypass just before the di vessel to let the first litre or so of pure  not go through the DI and into the ibc as it takes about a minute for the membrane to bring the water to as low as it can.
For me personally when i first switch it on the pure water going to the ibc starts off at about 120 ppm and gets down to about 14ppm after about a minute thats when i then let it go into the DI vessel.

I flush my RO for 5 mins most weeks but also do the same p1w1 with the bypass valves saves a little resin with tds crept.

I suggest re-checking that as the membrane ages.  There was a time when mine only took a couple of minutes to drop to the minimum level.  These days it takes a fair bit longer, 10 -15 minutes sometimes.  Mind you, I realise that I am probably squeezing the final few months from a membrane that's been installed for 8 or 9 years (it outputs water around 018 these days from a tap TDS of about 200).  The RO output was 000 - 001 at the beginning of its life and spent a number of years around 007 - 008.  Production has halved too but is still sufficient for a sole trader.

5 Minute flush before production. You should have enough waste ratio over the membrane during production to keep it clean.

Here, every six months  or so for about fifteen minutes or so.

Four or five years old and still producing at the same rate.
