retirement ...win win situation
« on: November 10, 2017, 07:31:27 am »
Next May I reach the grand old age of 65 and have decided to retire, a good friend of mine who already runs a successful business has offered to buy me out and include my business to his expanding company.

We have agreed on what I consider to be a good price and deposit has been paid and contracts exchanged to take effect at the end of May 2018. The amount I have sold it for will set me up for my retirement fund.

But here is the WIN WIN situation, he then wants to employ me to help run what was my old round using his van/equipment etc, so I will no longer incur any overheads, the only difference is that all monies will be paid to him rather than me and in exchange for this he will then be paying me a daily rate which we have also agreed on.

I also have the option to work 1 or 5 days a week (my choice) until I no longer feel fit enough to pick up a pole.
The benefit of this being that I continue to have a small income plus I still get to see a lot of my favourite customers who have over the years become very good friends of mine.

HAPPY DAYS

So basically ...

You are able to get a state pension at the newer higher rate at age 65 (Jammy git.)
You get a lump sum for your round at the same time (Great!)
No more expenses (Fantastic.)
Use of van? (If so, lovely.)
You choose number of days per week (Brilliant.)
Paid holidays and bank holidays? (Nice.)

Hooray for Le Huray!
It's a game of three halves!

I’d be interested in some figures on this,  pension pots is something I have been heavily researching over the last year. You don’t mention employees so I guessing you are a sole trader,   you are selling your business for an amount that will give you a pension fund, unless you consider £30 A week a pension then the amount you are getting for your business must be a very significant amount.

again a guess but you are a sole trader, window cleaner? Another topic on this section is a ‘£400 a day’ topic  you must be in this bracket?

Your post is quite inspiring and could be a Goal for lots cleaners (not just window cleaners)  it would be helpful for you to give more details

Hi Mike, no I'm not in the £400 a day bracket and I for one would never discuss my earnings on a open forum (you never know who is reading it)  but suffice to say I do earn a decent wage.

As for details on how much I'm selling the business for, again I can't discuss that to any other 3rd parties as it a private transaction but again suffice to say I'm very happy with the deal.
