I have  a FloJet strainer between the tank and the pump. It is fitted flat with the clear lid facing up.

Question; Should it be full of water?

Looking in the clear lid it always looks to me as if the water is passing through without actually filling the strainer.

The clear lid should be pointing downwards mate.   I did same mistake until someone pointed it out to me 👍

Unless you turn the water off at the tank and bleed your hoses then you will always have water in it.

As Nathan said facing down, there's no need for anything better as they're more than capable of stopping things like grit and so on
from damaging the pump, other than that they serve no purpose.


That said don't worry as nothing of importance can get through them up or down.

Ohh i might seitch onto those. With using hot water the plasit ones often spring a leak.   What connections would you use with them to secure the hose?

from damaging the pump, other than that they serve no purpose.

We found there to be 3 problems.

1, they don't like heat
2, they are easily airlocked
3, the rubber seal on them is unreliable, being pre-pump by necessity this can lead to the system drawing in air, which sucks.

I don't use hose I use john guest pipe and fittings.

Good point,that must all be down to using hot, I had one crack in the frost but other than that have never had a problem.

It doesn't take much to break a diaphragm pump.

Haven't used one for ten years and never had a problem with Flojet. Had problems with shureflow pumps every  year.
