I use a 650 litre flat tank with no cage . Next week I am changing vans . I am going to strap it in as I will need to remove it occasionally. Now the mechanic is fitting me new  floor lashing points  made from high tensile steel each with 4 bolts look really good quality also 5 tonne ratchet straps . My question is will a cage round the tank make any difference if involved in an accident . Or is the cage  only any good if the tank is bolted in . Any advice , cheers .

It's pointless getting a tank frame if it's not going to be bolted in,that's the whole point.
If you are using straps the frame won't make a great deal of differnce,you can get tank frames which can be unbolted at certain points making the tank removable but will need to be permanently bolted and secured to the van floor.

Thanks for the reply slash . It was just whati was thinking and also what the mechanic thought . But just thought I would get a bit of feedback on here .

Would the new lashing points be classed as a modification.

Be best to ring your insurance company as they may vary,I've had a 650 tank in a vivaro a few years back and was classed as a modification as it was a 650 tank bolted  in with frame but  another chap I knew had a smaller tank ,smaller van with a different company it wasn't classed a modified as the water volumn was alot less,but this was his opinion, so to be sure check with your insurer,
