Business Accounts?? or not??
«

I have a business account, always have but I'm getting a bit pi$$ed off with the charges, get charges just for looking at it, probably get a charge for this post....(ok exaggerating a bit) but charges are bad.
Do you all use business accounts or is there an alternative???

I bank with Santander it’s no frills but free I’ve been with them for years but I don’t think they offer free banking to new customers anymore they did try to charge but they nearly lost all of their business as everyone threatened to jump ship so they offered free banking for life but with poop service.

When I ceased being a limited company I had to close my bank account then open another. This was in July, to be honest I still haven't got round to opening one and have been using my personal account.

Santander is about the cheapest
Mines 7.50 a month after 2 years free.
I prefer it as it help keep it separate.

When we first set up, we have free banking with Natwest. Once the charges kicked in, I just opened another current account. Everything goes in that. I draw from it and pay others. No fees to pay.
Saying all that, you can claim all your fees back!

It depends in my opinion how complicated your business is and how many transactions go through it. One thing to remember though is that if the bank charge a fee and they screw up they have to pay you compensation because it is a service they are selling. I would imagine most smaller companies could probably get away with operating from a private bank account

Without getting into a long argument is is still true to say that there is a cost to the banks in providing free banking for personal accounts even if that cost is somehow absorbed or paid for in other ways.
They may be “free” but that’s only because of the cross-selling of other services and by the personal accounts being subsidised by the costs of business accounts.
