GoCardless is great!
« on: September 03, 2017, 12:32:13 pm »
I was so anxious about GoCardless before i tried it or understood how it worked.  Got 7 new customers on there now and loving it!  Just need to find the best way to slowly convert existing customers on there who are slow payers for bank transfers or nightmare cash payers that otherwise i will end up dumping as i want to eradicate collecting before next year.  Currently still do about 4/5 hours of collecting a month.  ;D ;D

I remember trying to get direct debits set up years ago. My bank manager practically laughed me out of the bank.

Besides saving time and ease of use, having direct debit as a payment option makes you look more professional IMO.

Ditto, ive been putting off looking into this  but mostly because of being ignorant of it, not knowing too much about it without actually looking into it!

I have alot of customers who pay via PayPal and thankfully i can request money from them as well. A feature i like.
I have ones who pay via online banking and ones who have set up a regular standing order.
Yet im still chasing up ones who pay online plus all the ones who pay by cash and im begining to get frustrated with them now.
I have all my work the best way possible for me, apart from the main part of getting paid 😠
So ive done my work for this week and have morning free whilst wife has the kids on a field trip. Good time to look into it.

One  question, im old school with my record keeping as i have my rounds book. Is it more efficient to tie "go cardless" with a software package ie george for instance or does it not really matter.??

I'm quite lucky since most of my customers are in and pay cash. The few that pay via bank transfer seem to pay pretty promptly.

Hi Nathan

You can set up Direct Debit mandates and collect payments via the GoCardless site i.e. no need for any additional software, however using Aworka or Cleaner Planner is even easier, for instance when you mark a job as "done" Aworka notifies the client of the pending Direct Debit (required) and then completes the transaction with funds deposited to your account within 5 working days.

Personally I feel that go cardless is the biggest thing to happen to our industry in the last few years. It has literally transformed my business. We could not function at our level without it. Positive cash flow is the single most important thing in any business. With our level of expenses each month I have to know the money will be in the bank. It surprises me that others don't embrace it more. The ONLY reason not to is not declaring income and keeping cash hidden which is a masive mistake and a false economy. We have 4600 customers now, 3500 of those on go cardless. New customers joining have to use it with no exceptions, previous customers still paying other ways do not get a clean if 1 is outstanding, they get dropped and can only re join by using go cardless.
The best way to predict the future is to create it.

I have a lot of elderly etc who sadly dont know how to use a computer never mind asking them to use a tablet 😂
How do u get round these ones lee.
I have ones who set up standing orders via online banking and was thinking of doing a card with my details on for them to take it to the bank and ask the cashier to set up the standing order......tho not sure fully that, that would work 😕

In fact I find older people more willing to pay that way. We don't have a problem at all.

I find about 1 in 20-30 potential new customers won't agree to direct debit and therefore won't us us. So not many at all.

There are other upsides to. People are less likely to cancel, they are less aware of the spend so it doesn't stand out in their minds.

I also like the fact the dashboard shows me the money coming in over the next week. This makes it easier to spend on things when you know you can recover in a few days.

I have about 20% of my customers on Go Cardless, i agree its the best way without a doubt, The rest is Bacs with maybe 10 % paypal and 5% in cash and cheques, but i dont collect at all.

I still find a lot reluctant to sign up to go cardless even though they are fine with BACS or PayPal. i think its the mention of Direct debit that scares them.

I would like to say go cardless or nothing but if someone says no thanks but i will pay Bacs then im not in a position to turn away work
