Sorting out the messers...
« on: August 17, 2017, 09:06:25 pm »
Was this a bit harsh?

Got asked for quote today, got the number and sent this message....

Hi ........
Is thursday next week ok around 4pm?
Will probably take an hour and half with insides, thats £x of work to me but will do it for £x if your going to be a regular 4 weekly customer?
If its a one off l will charge full price.
I wont keep anyone on the books if they cancel scheduled cleans as it affects my wages.
I do work in the rain where required as l like to keep to my schedule, and dont miss cleans.
We carry out all cleans to a high standard and dont let peolle down.
If all this is ok for you then please txt back and we can confirm your first clean.
Many thanks
Paul

I didnt get a reply for over an hour.

Hi

Your first clean price would be £xx
Then future cleans would be £xx every 4 weeks
Im next in the area in two weeks, if you wish to go  ahead, let me know and i will text you the evening before to confirm when im coming.
Thanks

The rest of it, working in the rain, dumping them etc they will find out in due course. i wouldnt worry about it, charge double for the first clean and take your chances.

I agree somewhat, but l wanna get all that out the way first before l go do a first clean and then get messed around after that

I have worked my backside off this year and am happy to say im in the position to take it or leave it. Im in the "polishing" phase of this goal.

Just curious why did you not tell her all that before hand then? instead of long winded text messages, a text message can come across completely different to someone who reads it (that text could come across as slightly arrogant) hence why you've posted it on here asking  . Call me old fashioned but i like to deal with people face to face or over the phone, you can get a better feel of the type of customer they will be and also put yourself across nicely too.

Didnt get the chance during phone conversation

I suppose l like to set the t+c's in writing!

Also people will just agree during conversation, ive had it loads.

This way they can take time to mill it over and reply accordingly

Fair enough, like you say they have it in writing . Although i dont think your terms were harsh i can see how it could be read that way quit easily and be off putting.

Haha like it  ;D

Yep i would have sent a courtesy text confirming my minimum charge and day to evaluate and quote. Also confirming if they are happy with the quote i could commence whilst there. All the other stuff i would verbalise when i see them, but i would send another courtesy text night before the scheduled day to confirm its still on.

She text me back today and apologised but she has found someone cheaper!

I text back and thanked her letting me know.

This would have turned out to be a waste of my time, realy cant be bothered with people like that!

I think l will take this line with all potential customers from now on and hope it will help me to sort out the messers!

Looks like it just saved me from one.

If your at the polishing stage in your round , and your not bothered , then I would do this too. I price most jobs with a can't be arsed price as I'm not bothered whether I get them anymore. Keep up the good work, no one needs a messer in their round

I usually charge double the monthly charge on first cleans. This instantly puts off any messers and if any slip through the net I view the job as a one off bonus.

Even at double it would be a loss, my first cleans are worth more on most jobs!

Dont realy like 1 offs so less of em better.
