8mm barb or 6mm using microbore
« on: June 29, 2017, 04:41:20 pm »
I use Gardiners microbore. On their website they advise the connectors with 6mm barb for microbore and 8mm barb for minibore.

I am finding the 6mm barb seemingly rather loose and has a tendancy to leak even when the olive is securely in place. Whereas the 8mm barb fits tighter.
Am I doing something wrong or do other microbore users find the same issue?

I had a similar situation with my old 6mm hose which was over 7 years old.
I noticed in the last 6 months of use that the hose bore had expanded slightly to a point where the 6mm barb connectors I used would be a looser fit than they previously were, tightening the jubilee clip as tight as it would go would be ok for the first couple of days and then it would gradually start spraying water.
The only viable options were to step up to 8mm barb connectors or replace hose.

I have had that too !
Better to get a size bigger when joining , more so when the hose is older .
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

depends on the quality of the fitting - i had some where the barbs measured 5.5mm diameter i now only get the parker genuine rectus fittings which are always a good fit to the hose

Thanks Darran. Which retailer do you get the genuine Parker connectors from?
