Limestone damaged by Roll n Stroll
« on: March 05, 2017, 10:55:02 pm »
I am looking for some help and advice on the best way to rectify damage done to a limestone floor by strips of Roll n Stroll, workmen had been carrying out work at the property and put a strip of roll n stroll down the middle of the kitchen floor. This was left down for 4 weeks while work was carried out, on completion of their work and the roll n stroll was removed it left a stripe down the limestone floor, it is faint but still very noticeable, has the roll n stroll removed the surface of the impregnating sealer (the sealer used was FILA MP90 Eco Plus)? or is it a residue from the roll n stroll that has has gone into the stone or still on the surface, client wants to know if the damage can be rectified or if the whole floor (110 sqm) would need stripped and re sealed. Thanks in advance for any help

In my experience the only way to achieve an overall even aesthetic appearance is to strip the whole floor and start again.  Trying to mess around with sections is more time consuming.

I would scrub using PSRP Heavy Duty Tile & Grout Cleaner coupled with PSRP Hone 320 Honing Powder, Scrub it in using a Rotary, extract, Rinse, and extract again with a wet vac.  Check it for appearance then allow to thoroughly dry.  Then seal with Miracle 511 H2O if you want it the same colour or Miracle 511 Seal & Enhance if you want a wet look.

Thanks for the advice Kevin  :), is it possible that the roll n stroll has just removed some surface dirt or could the mark  also be caused by sweating due to being covered for 4 weeks  along with underfloor heating,  and the roll n stroll not being brethable? Trying a test patch on Monday, advised the customer that a complete strip and seal will probably be the outcome.

I have had loads of these over the years.  It happens not only with Roll & Stroll it also is prevalent with Corex as well.  The product keeps getting walked on and then the pattern transfers onto the stone from corex ribs and from Roll & Stroll the adhesive soaks into the stone.  I have seen it so bad in one house where it was down for 4 Months, it had transferred so well a combination of the sun and being walked on, that you could partially actually  read the the words in the stone "Roll & Stroll".

Incidentally a tip for all readers of this is that, if ever you are cleaning and sealing a floor with UFH the underfloor heating should be off for a minimum of 24 hours before the process begins and 3 days afterwards.
