« on: February 02, 2017, 07:11:21 pm »
Hi just seeing if thing have changed as when i did my first van people said your pump must be as low as you can get it whe drawing water from the side of the tank(400lt flat).
In my new van iv got two pumps suckin water from the top of the tank(650 upright) and my pumps are one low with the other above is there going to be any problems? iv put them like that as im have my hose reels stacked up on a frame.

thanks joe

Pumps need to be down low unless you have a non return valve fitted.
Bit of coincidence you mention this as I had a mate pop over today. He just bought a varistream pump and controller fitted on a plate. He fit it in is van up high so he could easily reach the controller, yesterday however he was having problems all day with the pump dead ending.
We dropped the plate to close to the floor and problem solved.

We fitted my son's van's pump higher than his 500 liter tank. No issues at all.
We just make sure that all the fittings are airtight.

My pump is on top of the tank, close to the battery, shorter the wires the more efficient it operates.

The advantage of a pump lower than the water level is it can be gravity bled, if you see what I mean. Above the tank airlocks can be a pain to get rid of.

My pump is fitted just above the tank and works well. Had this set up 11 years.

Advantage for me is that in sub zero temperatures I do not have to worry about frost damage to the pump as the water drains back to the tank and van mounted hose reel.

From my own experience it doesn't seem to matter where you put the pump.
