Hello

I've just come back to cleaning...

bought an older machine with low funds etc

Its tripping the electric rcd after a minute of use... despite which circuit i use.. I reset the switch and try again..

If i run one motor... its fine, if i run the other... its fine... if i run both... it trips after a min..

Any suggestions?

let it cool and it runs for 3 mins with both fans..

trips..

60 seconds

..

brushes ?

How many different homes have you tried it in? Could it be just a sensitive  rcd ?

i've only recently got it as an upgrade.. seen it working in another house though..

its 2 different rcd's


i've tapped the motor to clear the brushes... and its ran for just shy of five mins...

I've found, on a prochem anyway, that the brushes on the vacs have needed changed. 

Having said that it could be a problem with the electrics in the property.

I have had this on my raptor which is back up to my T/M. 2 seperate visits to good technicians who could not find any fault, so annoying! Remembered a friend who had just retired as head of tech for local NHS hospital, Took it round and he metered everything, vacs/pump/wiring etc no fault. Then talked about carbon shorting!?! Apparently there are carbon bombs that have been used that deploy carbon on strategic electriacal installations that cause them to malfunction for a period without destroying them, news to me... 
Anyway we completly clean everything and suprisingly cloths had a fair amount of carbon on them, and hey prest, machine now works a treat without tripping!
 Now He works as aconsultant few days a month and charges £175.00 plusvat per hour! fortunatly I gave a generous discount on his nxt clean and everyones happy, give it a go. Cheers Simon

Make the whole machine is dried out. Maybe been stored somewhere damp.

more rust in the motor than on a north sea oil rig...

swapped it over for a smaller but brand new fan and that's out performing the 7.2 that i left in..

although it sounds like you've sorted it now, it's worth knowing that if the RCD is tripping it doesn't always mean it's the machine at fault.

My step dad is an electrician so remember the bulk of what he has told me but not the minor digits so forgive me if i use the wrong terminology. RCDs will trip after a certain amount of issue, say 20 watts are lost, and the machine may naturally lose 5 watts, nothing to trip and RCD, but lets say the house is already naturally losing 17 watts, then your 5 will set it over and trip it. try another house that's only losing 10 watts, add your 5 and it'll never trip.

i had this before at a customers house, ended up doing areas for free due to the hassle i thought I was causing him. turned out nothing wrnog with my machine but his fuse box and he got rooms done for free the lucky ducky.
