Mytee Escape
« on: January 13, 2017, 01:18:04 pm »
Well I have to eat humble pie, Many people told me the Mytee Escape would be a waste of money and it is. In fact I didn't even get it off the pallet before I noticed a massive problem. It is a two cord machine the first cord draws 13 amps but the second cord draws 20 amps!! Worldwide Cleaning Support have cut the US plug off the end and put a 13 amp plug on it. So that's 20 amps being drawn through a 13 amp plug. Needless to say it is just not safe to use the machine here in the uk. I had to send it back, I have had a refund, however the machine is still on sale. For any one thinking of getting one I would be careful, it's an accident waiting to happen! It is absolutely fine for use in the USA though because of the way their electricity works. On a positive note Craig Lincoln is fitting me a Boxxer 421 on tuesday so no electricity problems there! I can't wait to have a go with the extra power and heat! I have an indian restaurant lined up for the next day so it should be a good first time out.

Beats me why they don't offer a tweaked version for the UK , just even fitting the 500psi cat instead of a 1000 and two 1200w electro's on that cord fixes that , you would not be sacrificing much and still have a powerful quad .

They could just buy the shell and offer a configuration of internal components.

Personally I would have taken Johns suggestion and looked at what is running off the  20amp and stepped it down to fit a 13 amp plug, even going down to a 150-200psi pump.

I have a 17amp motor on my pump, just because it has a 20 amp cord does not mean it pulls 20amps.

How much was the machine?

The machine alone was £4140 +vat. The reason I bought the machine rather than making an etm was time. Also modifying it straight away would void any warrenty. The other reason for getting it was to get as close to TM performance with electricity as possible if I had to downgrade it I might as well have stuck with my porty.

The reason it pulls 20 amps is it has two vacuum motors, a 1.5 hp pressure pump and a pump out on one of the cords.

Had my boxxer 421 over 10 years now, it's been and still is a great machine

You'll not be disappointed!

Enjoy

Just been thinking can you just change the plug on  a USA machine and plug in into a UK 240v supply? I thought the voltage was different.

Don't forget to buy a hydraforce ( unless you use one already) the perfect addition  to a TM :)

Many 115v american homes have a single 230v outlet in their utility room to power the likes of cloths dryers . the escape was only really practical in the USA if it utilized that , otherwise many escape users have a generation in the van.
They don't have 13amp fuses in their plugs though , that's the bottle neck over here , what exactly it does here I'm not certain , it takes 1.7 times the 13amps to blow if you go over current and just sits there heating up , potentially melting the plug or socket.

Yeh as John said..

The machine comes with two splitter boxes, one so you can plug into 4 separate 115v - 15 amp legs, or another so you can plug both leads into one single 30 amp dryer or cooker outlet. Unfortunately neither is of any use here as we don't have any 115v - 15 amp electrics or any 240v - 30 amp sockets. In fact the maximum rated domestic socket we have here is 13 amps and even if there was a higher rated socket,  the maximum rated plug for use in those sockets we have is 13 amps.

Even if we could plug it in the maximum a ring main is rated to is 32 amps and at full belt the machine draws 33 amps... It wouldn't take much mare draw off of a ring main to cause a problem like a kettle! I wish i knew this much detail before i bought it.
