Price hikes
« on: October 24, 2016, 11:13:40 pm »
Just wondering how often do you guys put up yer prices.?

The cost of everything seems to be getting more expensive. The lisence goes up 4% every year and the both car insurance and liability insurance have went up. Seems like the prices of jobs must go with the times,

3 times in the last 8 years ive put up large chunks of work.i have work ive never put up in 10+ years though and i still think they are well priced(£45-£60 an hour jobs).

i put some up every year now even if its only a handful.i have a review in jan/feb and raise them in april.next year ill be putting up around 200 accounts a quid or two.i usually lose 2 or 3 customers.

i made the classic newbie mistake of charging low prices when i started back in 1993 and never put prices up for years for fear of losing them plus i had very little self confidence.dont make the same mistake.

once you ve raised them its a great feeling when your next round charging the new prices and if you raise them in spring the weather helps as well with the "feel good" factor. :)
price higher/work harder!

I put mine up when i feel im working for too cheap or if im not happy cleaning the property im on etc. Thankfully i am happy with all my pricing at present as i dont think twice, if any need to bump up i just do it.

You just need the business mind set.
Your clients might not like it, but the will however, be expecting it. So dont put it off, just do it.
Theres not many prices in anything that ever stay the same, except for maybe window cleaners

last year i put all my front only jobs up by £3, i got to say it feels good.   ;D

I explained the cost of cleaning their windows has gone up over the years so my prices must reflect if i am to continue offering a quality service. If you are a wash and run guy you may not get away with huge price increases (not that mine was) but if you take the time to do a quality job i find they don't mind.

I explained the cost of cleaning their windows has gone up over the years so my prices must reflect if i am to continue offering a quality service. If you are a wash and run guy you may not get away with huge price increases (not that mine was) but if you take the time to do a quality job i find they don't mind.

Some years ago, when i trad cleaned. I had this particular old lass in a bungalow. Now i used to (still do) pride myself on a quick job whilst maintaining quality, as lets face it, its to make money not a hobby.
Every time i cleaned windows, she would come outside and check every window and sills, whilst i was cleaning the neighbours (before i would collect on both). Everytime i would ask if she wasnt happy with them. Her reasoning was, that i did them so quickly i couldnt be doing a good job. She never found anything to moan at. I even started to clean hers slowly to make her feel better. I did so for about 3 cleans and then i got tired of messing around because in her head, a fast job cannot be a  quality job. She never complained other than me being quick. So i told her to get another slower window cleaner (who could leave streaks etc for being too slow).

I picked up a new customer the other week. The last one hadnt been for ages. So i treated it like a new clean and frames needed use of ibik. So it took a little longer than normal. The chap started talking about previous cleaner saying how quick he was and that they timed him and he was just over 3mins to clean house. (Large basic windows, 6 at from and 3 at rear).
I explained that once these were upto scratch, it wouldnt take me long either to clean them. After we had finished talking, he excepted the fact that i (all on wfp) had invested alot of money in new innovations to allow us (window cleaners) to clean faster but to keep high quality at the same time. Difference i told him from him using an old hand drill for his wood work or using a power tool, which speeds his work up and actually makes it more quality than before. He got the point!
So regardless of fast jobs or slow workers, if your work is quality, then by all means put prices up to reflect this and the investment you make.

I wasn't accusing anyone here of not cleaning properly but we all know or have watched somebody who misses the UPVC frames and cleans with the brush in a circular motion then leaves without rinsing.

I come across the same thing last week. I can't imagine they get away with regular price increases after seeing how sloppy they are.

I spend way too long on some people's houses and not so long on others. It's down to the type of glass and age of windows/frames that dictates my speed.

I prefer to spend more time and charge a little extra personally, it's been working for me since 2008.

Although I'm not rich yet!  :o
