10 '' prefilters
« on: September 30, 2016, 02:18:29 pm »
Hi all I've just changed my 2 ,10 inch prefilters, standard ones with this ones  http://gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/all-products/pure-water-systems/water-treatment/sediment-carbon-filters/fibredyne-cfb-plus-sediment-carbon-pre-filter-10.html
My tds went from 17-18 ppm to around 35 ppm in the 2 months with the standard ones so I thought it's time to change.
But with the new ones which supposed to be better my tds shows 45ppm. The whole systems is only 2 months old ,so I don't really understand what I'm doing wrong.
Maybe you can help

The Fibredyne filter is nothing more than a overpriced gimmick, I would say your water pressure is too low.
Whats your tap tds  and what type of RO do your have ?

Agree!
Which gpd membranes do you have and perhaps use a booster pump and watch the tds go doen and production increase.
I use a purefreedom 450gpd ro with a sediment filter, carbon filter and then fibredyne (over kill i know) but i use a 60psi diaphragm pump as a booster. Works a treat

Obviously I would disagree with SeanK on the subject of the Fibredyne filters   ;)

However I would agree with him that it may be a pressure issue  :)

Can I ask do you now have two of these filters one after the other? If so this will be reducing the pressure to your RO system.

Ideally you should have just 1x of these Fibredyne filters inline before the RO. The other 10" canister can remain empty, unless you are in a high sediment area and then you could fit a 5 micron sediment filter before the Fibredyne filter.

What is your input water pressure?
What is your water input TDS?
What RO system are you using?

Hi,

My water is around 450 ppm ,so very hard.
My system is 2 x 10 inch prefilters and 1 x 40 inch membrane with booster pump so pressure shouldn't be an issue.
I do have 2 one after the other Fibredyne filters.
Were would be the best o get the micron filter ?
Thanks

Hi CCS

That is pretty hard water. Should be OK as long as you have a high waste ratio and flush very regularly, preferable for 5 minutes at the start of each fill.

You should only have 1x of the Fibredyne pre-filters inline. This will have lowered your input pressure to the membrane, thereby reducing the output quality.

Do you know what your input water pressure is?

You can get the sediment pre-filters from most good WFP suppliers - http://gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/all-products/pure-water-systems/water-treatment/sediment-carbon-filters/sediment-pre-filter-10.html

This is very interesting as my results from my RO have changed since I started using the fibredynes and couldn't figure out what it was

Thanks for the advice.I just ordered some micron filters and other bits from you last night.
Also i do flush regulary and every time i fill i leave the first 10 litres to run in a bucket .the ratio pure /waste is about 50/50.
I don't know the water pressure ,I'll have to check that

i reckon you would be better off with a 65/35 waste ratio for better protection on the membrane
