Hi, I have a low 400 L tank pushed up to the bulkhead in my navara.  I cant ratchet the tank down because the strap goes over the lid and anyway I don't want to do that. To prevent it from slipping back to the tailgate I plan to bolt a piece of angle onto the front floor. Because I'm  indecisive  I'm not sure how big this angle should be to hold the tank against the bulkhead.  I can chose from 50mm×50mm×3mm or up to 100mm×100mm×10mm.  Is bigger better is this case? It just needs to prevent the tank slidding back.

50 X 50 will keep it in place make sure its a good tight fit

are you sure you want  to do that it dosent sound secure .also if you get stopped by the traffic bobbies they may say it is an unsecured load and that will open a can of worms, not to mention the insurance implications. best of luck.

Surely if you are going to bolt a piece of angle iron to the floor you might as well get some heavy duty lugs fitted and ratchet strap the tank in securely.

get some perspective man!!! The tank is against the bulkhead and there are two of them. if the tank had distance to travel then yes strap it down.

Half a tonne of water entirely unsecured except it's pushed up to a bulkhead? 

Maybe check out some videos on YouTube mate of WFP vans in tank tests. They're quite revealing.

As an aside, I wonder if anyone would be prepared to sit in the back of an empty Transit van for half an hour whilst the driver takes a trip through various driving scenarios, including built up town start-stop, A roads and 60 down the motorway with a handful of unsecured 25 litre drums in the back and describe the experience after.
