Where's the support for small business's
« on: May 23, 2006, 09:35:38 pm »

Here's my moan for the day, milllions of our taxes spent in keeping the train
service running, post office running just to get the things on time. Millions
spent on Rover now that's gone bust.

Blair wanted more people to go self employed, where's the help !!!! No where
  to be seen.

Started Window cleaning 2.5 yrs ago best move I made, moved over to WFP
with the help o the guys on this forum. Now business is going through the roof
and I'm turning it away. Therefore I want to give someone the opportunity
to work along side me and teach them the ropes.

To do this I will have to spend around £400 on gear and £200 on insurance
and license. I don't mind paying for the gear but the £200 is the risk factor
in that if the person lasts a couple of weeks then that's money down the drain.
Spoke to various agencies who fund uncoming business's but none are willing
help in any way as I am not willing to offer the person a full tiem contract.

I explained to them to do that the insurance is sky high and I can never
guarantee a full working week. Hence I would be employing the person
on a contract basis. No still no help out there, even from the tax man.

How do they expect small business's to grow and quite happily throw money
away. I'm left speechless, mind you after seeing the comments on the
virging window cleaner subject I might not bother.

I don't think we as an industry are rewarded for the service we give to the
  public.

  My rant over.

Hi Doug,

Try your emplyment centre as they often have initiatives for prospective employers. I took a lad on from them that had been unemployed for more than 6 months, he's now been with me 3 years and is greta. To start with thegovernment paid £65 per week towards his wages. They paid this for the first 16 weeks.

As for your insurance, try Willis 0845 6712200 or www.willis.com
We use them for all our guys, you can add or take of people and the cost is spread over 12 months so perhaps not so much of a risk.

I no what you mean about our government thou, I could employ 3 more people with the amount of Tax/VAT/Business Rates we pay, its a joke!!!

Chin up and good luck,

 Hi Trev,

Thanks for the info , am still awaiting our local council to get back to us. As
usual service is not that great, if I don't hear from them then I'll speak to
  the Job Centre.

Got a young lad comimg over this evening so going to put him through the
paces with WFP. This is my first stage of developing my business, not looking
to get rich but just want to give someone the opportunity in life. I'm looking
at it with a veiw this will be by pension income in the future, many years to
to go though, I think ;D

Looked at your website, very impressive. You look as if you have built your
business up, an chance of any guidance on the pitfalls of employing people.
I'm open to ideas and advise, is ok to mail you with some questions.

 Much appreciated.
