Why in a field

Always carry spare connectors male and female to make a temp repair + scissors  .

And while you're at it, get something like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Apollo-Piece-Household-including-Reached/dp/B00NY5A0SA/ref=lp_1939081031_1_18?s=diy&ie=UTF8&qid=1468065995&sr=1-18 - not great quality but it'll get you by.

Add in a spare of every connector, etc on your van, a few repair bits (connector above, tape, etc).

In that way if you have something go wrong while you're out working you'll be able to repair it, you won't have to stop cleaning and go home and you'll earn enough to pay back the cost of the tools and the spares.  In six years I've had to come home once to repair something.

Carry super glue and gaffer/insulation tape for an "in the field" repair. Use the glue to seal the hole; hold it together for a minute or two and wrap with tape. Will deffo last the day out, maybe the week!

People have previously mentioned self-annealing tape - anyone who has, can you do a long-term hose repair with it?

I have a roll of self amalgamating tape. It welds itself to itself. It stretches like electrical tape so you can get it tight around stuff.

Apart from repairs in a field, although I've never used it in a field, it's great to put around connectors to stop drips, etc, and for makeshift repairs to hose.
