Company Names - Do They Matter
« on: May 02, 2016, 05:47:50 pm »
As above really !  What importance do you place on your or a company name or title?

For example what is your perception of the following names hyperthetically speaking.  Before you answer please do not take offence if any of these happen to be your company name.  I am only trying to gauge a reaction

I think a company name needs to reflect your business goals, as an example my business name is "Robin Ray Specialist Cleaning" why? I want to convey a local, personal image so i use my own name. I initially offered a vast range of services so I brought them under the umbrella of "specialist cleaning". As the company is becoming more focused I may change this to something more specific at a later date, however I feel words like specialist, prestige, premium or expert are aimed at attracting a higher end customer. Names including words like affordable, quick, budget etc are obviously attracting a lower end customer. So yes I feel a company name is important in sending the right message to the type of customer you want to attract.

I was thinking along those lines

I passed a garage the other day offering all sorts of cheap deals!  However, I was immediately put off by

1.  The name  " BARGAIN MECHANICALS "
2.  The fact that in their extensive list of their services under the name  there were two immediately obvious spelling mistakes ;D

So would I go there for a

Chasis Repair or a Break Relined

Probably not

When I chose my name I was very aware of  the  image  it portrayed.

At the time 'Henry' was not the popular trendy name it is  today, only old people were called Henry,  it was my dads name and my first name (although  from being born I was known by my middle name Michael )

Years ago it was a tradition for sons to follow thier father into a business,   the term ......& Son was added  to the name, again this was a traditional thing

Years ago being a limited company and using ' Ltd' on your name was also a sign of respectability.

My company name by design brought all these 3 things together  HENRY HALLIDAY & SON LTD  so from day 1 my company sounded old & established
