We use Sage Instant Payroll & VT Accounts (transaction).

Sage is about £80 per year but they send update discs throughout the year i.e. budget changes etc. and this also includes telephone support.  Very easy to use & does save time.

VT is a bit harder to get used to and we only use this because our accountant recommended it.

Sage is well known and works well but you will find cheaper options.

Not saying these are the best, just what we use! ;)

depends what your turnover is...re sage that is

all sage packages can be 'added to' i.e. upgraded to the next model so

if you have a smallish turnover you could even start with sage 10 (instant accounts) it only costs about £120 as a one off fee, i started with this version and it worked well - i eventually upgraded to sage line 50 and that was a lesson in itself
