How long does your resin last
« on: May 16, 2006, 08:49:16 pm »
We live in an area where the water quality is about 34 - 40. But if i get any more than 3 weeks use of it I am lucky. Is it me.

To work out how much pure water you should get from a 25lit bag of resin divide 500,000 by your tds which at its highest reading of 40 works out at  12500lit of pure water.

Is your vessel an 11lit or 25lit?

It will of course depend on the size of vessel and the ammount in the resin bag.
A 25 ltr bag lasts me over three months if I use 200 ltrs of water a day. My TDS is arround 50ppm. I do use 2 vessels in tandem, when the TDS of one starts to rise.
I run the water through this one first, I carry on using the old resin untill the TDS reaches 45ppm, then I dump it.
MY First in line vessel is now reading 4 ppm. I don't want to clean windows with that. So it's tap to first vessel, out of first vessel at 4ppm and into the second vessel
out of the second vessel at zero ppm. Your saving on resin as long as the tds out of your first vessel is less than that of your tap water. Dai

I just don't get it. Your tds out of the tap is 45??? Mine is 480+. Yep, the hardest in the country. Resin lasts about three times lonfer or more if you shake it regularly. After shaking it, the loosened particles wash out for a couple of minutes and then the tds drops right back down. I get water out of the R/O about 80ppm ( it needs new filters) and the 1 litre polishing vessel of resin lasts at least two months. I shake it every day. So my running costs are practically zilch. In fact my problem is the resin going out of date before I get to use it! And I'm using a smaller vessel and starting with a higher tds.

Strange but true.

water out of my tap is over 300,gets down to 3 after going though ro.use 25ltr container of resin, this has lasted for just over a year getting water down to 000,but last few days has risen to 001,so maybe time to change it.
