The new years list have been released they were interviewing a few on the bbc this morning.

So if we could nominate someone in our industry for a honour (OBE MBE or Sir) who would it be.

Someone who has worked in the industry for many years.

Someone who has working to promote our industry to the general public.

I have a couple in mind Derek Bolton or Paul Pearce.

Those who have been in the industry longer could think of a few more.

Would need to be someone who has advanced the industry in this country, someone who has innovated and represented the trade. I am too much of a newbie to suggest anyone but have met some who I would have gladly crowned.

I think the first two would be excellent nominations , both have devoted a considerable amount of time over the years  to promoting and training in the industry DB was the first Moderator of the Carpet Cleaning Section  of Cleanitup

Totally agree with that. What many won't realise is that Ron Tilley was the first to import professional quality equipment in from the USA, who have always had a far more developed industry than us, and with it the very latest chemicals systems and most importantly of all provided some of the very first training courses, drawing from his experience as a former managing director of Servicemaster, so I think he can quite rightly be called, the father of the modern carpet cleaning industry  in this country. I for one am deeply indebted to him as he took me very much under his wing in my early years. So, Sir Ron Tilley  would be a fitting tribute to the man.

I totally agree with you Simon and Francis regards Ron Tilley.

Myself and my brother both trained with Ron back in the early 1980s, when it was extremely hard to find a company that undertook professional carpet and upholstery training courses.

Ron was a real professional when it came to teaching carpet and upholstery cleaning methods and techniques, an exceptional and truly inspirational teacher and mentor to all who had a passion for professionalising the training of carpet, hard floor and upholstery training, equipment and chemicals in the UK.

I have never met Ron so cant judge.

But the  company he developed has stood the test of time.

Is he still involved in Prochem in any way?

There are a lot of good people in this industry willing to help others.

Ron is still a director and shareholder of Prochem together with other members of his family.  At 85 I would imagine he isn't as active in the business as once
