Another number to put on your block caller list  :)

I recently did 2 commercials. I always point out that payment is on completion. And as usual......on both jobs, can you send the invoice. Still not payed from both of them and reminders sent. Next will be a phone call then a further invoice with £20 added for costs.

In future when I turn up, I'll be asking if there is a cheque waiting and if not, it's me going home to watch the tele  ;D

So you can't do 500sq m next Saturday....throwing money away if they're  regular customer.
What's that £1500/£2000 more even.
I'd have bit the bullet.
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

How big a company? What position within the company does she hold?

Either forget it or invoice  them for any  cost & loss you have  had, don't just assume they will Not pay it.

Duplicate the invoice and send one to the accounts and one to the MD  ( in a female, handwritten addressed pink envelope)

She cancelled on you twice. The attitude i have always taken is those kind of customers can kiss my backside and go elsewhere. Nobody needs customers like that. Life is too short. Who cares if she is hot. I don't care if it is Bill Gates and microsoft offering me tens of thousands. No amount of money is worth making yourself and your business someone else's little bi*ch.

I had a very similar thing with a customer who phoned me night before at 6.30pm wanting a job done for the next day. I said that was completely impossible as we had work already booked in. She then texted me half hour later saying she personally knew four of my other customers and would get me cancelled at all of them.  She likewise was a hottie.

I totally understand where you are coming from JandS. I respect most guys would just go for the money. After all, that is what a business is all about. And as businessmen, we are supposed to be motivated by money.

For me though, call it ego, or plain old stubborness, but the first rule of running my business, before even making money, is I won't take crap from anybody, ever. No matter how much money is involved, and I won't compromise for anybody on that. As soon as I get messed around, or disrespected, or repeatedly paid late, which has happened with many customers out there, I politely part ways with that customer. Because whenever I have let a customer get away with it in the past, they have only messed me around again further down the line.

It is a big old world, and I genuinely believe there is another far better customer just around the corner waiting for me to find them. I've just got to get my backside out there and find them

agreed!

she was given a chance - she canx and Brendan rearranged his schedule and fitted her in as requested the following week just for her to cancel again.

thats it - problem customer who someone else can gladly have - whether out of two, you would give her one  ;)

yes we are in it to make a profit and run a business so we take the odd rearrangement, but draw a line with some and carry on. Sometimes some will never understand that when they cancel, they cancel our pay - how would she like it if her boss phoned her up on a Sunday and told her not to come tomm and then did the same the following week and dropped her 2 days pay without notice? I bet she would have something to say about that and she would soon be looking for another job as she couldnt plan her monthly outgoings without the security of regular daily work.

we are all in it for business, the smart ones though are in it for good business

Completely agree with davetherave. I don't mess with messers anymore.  Once an rsole always an rsole and they will only get worse if anything. I kind of have a sixth sense now that I can tell on the phone if they are going to be a problem customer but a few do still slip through the net. There's loads of work out there so I refuse to be treated like a bell end, although I can understand you have to bite your lip sometimes.
