Set up and clean an inconspicuous area exactly as I would  clean the Rest of the suite, using the same prespray and rinse, then dry with an air dryer,  then compare it to an untouched area.

But can't remember the last time I tested a fabric before cleaning

It does depend what you are testing for.

You may be testing for either colour bleed, shrinkage, texture change each test is different however they all need to be done in an inconspicuous area.

Each type of fabric you encounter will have its own potential problems which are worth checking for before hand. As Mike said though I cant remember the last time I tested. I think that's more that you learn which fabrics can cause issues rather than carelessness.

Remember the days when we used to do a crock test.....doubt anyone does that any more.

Saved me a few times I am sure, especially on the dreaded cotton prints   :)
