Are you saying that it smells because the customer walked on it before it was dry?

I would guess most of our customers walk on the damp carpets  after we leave, it doesn't make them smell, It's just a coincidence,  it smell because of something else, maybe it dried a little too slow, perhaps  she didn't ventilate  the room after you left and just closed the door and left it

I opened the 2 windows in the the bedroom to let it air as I normally so told her to put heating on low ect. Just thinking she might have pressed the moisture 2 the base this why there is a smell ? Lookkng for advice really just done what we normally do a good vacum , pre spray  agitatate  and a rinse with a derodrizer  in the tank regards

If it was me....

I would go back and investigate the smell. It may have a simple explanation like a wool smell. If not offer to apply some deodorizer as a good will gesture (stress that it works on the source of the odour rather than masking it). If it persists offer to clean again with something like odour kill or an enzyme. She will love that you have bent over backward to help her and become a good source of referrals.

agree with other comments posted wool does give of a sulphur smell, or perhaps there was a pee stain that has been
in the carpet for a while and has re actifated it or like you say she might have shut windows and door when you left so
it will smell like wet washing . as above advise go back and investigate it , she will appreciate it all the best.

Yea we are going to pop around tommorow for her right away ect. Defo wasn't a wool carpet we cleaned when she came back from swimming she said they were looking brand new and smelling so fresh. Was a medium pile carpet so not sure windows were not the best for air as they were large windows that opened at very top the the window. But not sure what has happened

buy some air movers they will cut out problems with drying carpets ,we always use them even in the summer as they
keep us cooled down as well . polpropolyne carpets if this is what it was especially medium pile carpet the watercould
have gone into backing which may have reacted with the latex ? good luck im sure you will sort it out

Could be anything. Go and inspect and you'll have the truth wether it's your fault or hers.

Sounds like you've over wet the carpet when you cleaned it and it has taken longer than it should to dry which has caused a bit on an odour to occur.  Or the customer has done something to it in the meantime and is trying to blame you, hence smelling a rat.
Can't understand why you think people walking on the carpet has any bearing on this.

Go back and deodorise the carpet and that should sort it.

you've probably reactivated an old vomit patch or milk spill. take some 429 with you, source the smell and spray some of that on it. leave for 20 mins then rinse.
