Just watched it.
Wow , what a missed opportunity. If they would have pitched it better then LTT could have been bigger than FC.

Hi all
We were not representing LTT but my other company The Handbag Spa which is already a very successfully operating business with 100's of bags being sent in every week
THBS were the original handbag restoration service and have a franchise already in Singapore and Qatar
There is a massive business in handbag restoration and the second hand value of them is hugely increasing because this service exists - our most expensive bag to date was worth £30k second hand value and the lady had 10 of them!!
As an established business we were looking for investment and help with the franchise side of the business.  The pitch was heavily edited - we were in there for 40 minutes and they showed 11 minutes.  What they didn't show was that the dragons who were all very interested in the concept wanted LTT thrown in as well which we were not prepared to do! However they all loved the idea and Deborah Meadon said she would use the service
The website did crash - we had moved it to a bigger server for the evening but with 4000 hits in 5 minutes even the biggest server would struggle to keep up!
Our enquiries have increased 10 fold since the show and we have had franchise enquiries from all over the world so all in all a good evening even if we didn't get the investment we were looking for.

We are now moving to a brand new unit - fully fitted out to cope with the increase in demand
Appeared on Look North this week too which also increased awareness!!
We have 80 drop off points all over the UK so have a huge coverage and the brand is taking us into some very serious negotiations

Onwards and upwards
Cheers

what i dont understand is that you say you do 100s of bags a week. You have main business running succesfully is it? So why are you looking for 60k to give away your futher profit? 60k is not a huge investment. Whats on my mind, Your business is not as good profitable as you say or you simply used the dragons program to advertise and you didnt want this 60k obviously. I bet its the second.

The franchise business is a separate business and was for selling franchises overseas (they did not show this part of the pitch) we do not need the investment for the UK operation but wanted the investment for help with marketing the franchises to an international market - looks like we don't need that now judging by the number of enquiries we have had!!
Certainly did us no harm at all!!

Thanks everyone for your comments  - all in all it was a fantastic experience that has brought us a huge amount of positive exposure which can only be good for the ongoing business together with some much bigger and more lucrative offers of investment - certainly not 'bad publicity'

What some people fail to understand is the amount of extremely hard work it has taken over the years to establish a business of this sort. The business will continue to need a great deal of ongoing hard work to take it forward as we plan to do - hats off to my daughter for her commitment and business acumen in this respect. Her links to the fashion industry and understanding of handbags in particular have certainly helped in this respect  :)

Fortunately, THBS also has a highly guarded specialist cleaning system for handbags (this system was demonstrated and licensed to us by a highly respected handbag specialist not long before he passed away), which makes the THBS service truly unique and puts us in a much more advanced situation to our competitors so will continue to be one of our greatest assets

Happy to say LTT also continues to thrive and training courses are still fully booked with delegates now  travelling from all over the world to learn - we have a special course for 10 delegates from the USA  next summer - all very experienced technicians already but who want to come to LTT to learn our system and processes - looking forward to it enormously

Thanks for reading
Cheers

A service I am sure my wife would take great interest in, judging by the number of expensive bags she has, although none are of £30k value, not that I am aware of anyway!!??

At the end of the day its a 'show' and the stars are the dragons, they clearly edited it to show you coming across as a bit prickly which gets people talking and reacting which it did and you have benefited.

A friend of my uncle was on the show a few years back, some of you might remember he got into a bit of an argument with Theo over sun bed towels for luxury liners etc, he alienated then completely and it became one of the highlights of the series.

His orders for them went through the roof and they did very well out of it and you can actually see them on sale now in places like Debenhams and airport shops, he actually used the show and his 'performance' as marketing tool in his advertising etc. He has something on the packaging like 'as seen on Dragons Den'.

By the way he's a very nice and not at all how he came over in the 'show', so my uncle tells me anyway.

They probably miss out on most of the best opportunities pitched to them as they can not be expected to understand all markets no matter what they might like us to think.

Incidentally my brother knows Deborah Meaden (and family) quite well, he does/did business with them in the entertainment field her family owned holiday parks he used to supply the slot machines etc to them, things have moved on a bit since then of course but he says she is a very nice lady indeed.

I have no doubt you will do very well out of this and at a quick glance I like the business model, if it was franchised in the UK it might even look at it myself for my daughter.

Are you aware of the 'Handbag Clinic' in Chelsea who do something similar ?

Hello Hilton
Thanks for the comments
Nothing is ever as it seems particularly on a show like this
We will certainly be very busy from it despite the outcome and have massive future plans for the business - already had a huge amount of interest from some very high profile companies who want to join forces - watch this space!!

Yes we are well aware of Handbag Clinic (Furniture Clinic to you and I)
We have over 30 depots all around London so have a greater spread which works really well for us and keeps overheads to the minimum - these run alongside our 50 other depots throughout the UK - this way no one is ever very far from a Handbag Spa drop off point. The handbag market is vast and the repair and cleaning part of the business is expanding all the time as more and more people become aware of the service  - any one opening up in competition only does us good in the end.  A lot comes down to the quality of customer service and workmanship which is something we pride ourselves on at THBS

Cheers
