Help with quote for night cleaning
« on: August 11, 2015, 09:32:36 pm »
I've already posted it on Contract Cleaning forum.

I need to give a quote for marquee event , three nights in row,  fifteen hours in total.  Four members of staff needed, all work will be done in the night. How much should I quote ? Per hour or per job?  Is £15 per hour fair? 4 people * 15 hours * £15/h = £900. Is it ok charge? I'll provide my own cleaning products.
Any advice?

It depends what time at night and how much you pay the staff

Kev beat me to it, I don't do contract cleaning but overnight at £15 p/h sounds poor to me, is there any profit in that rate ??

However you know your biz and staff so if they are happy to work out of hours for min wage then you'll make a few bob.

would have thought its pretty simple

cost of staff+your other operating costs+whatever profit you want/need to make

im just a sole trader but?
only you know your business

Time : between 8pm and 11pm and 1am to 4am.
£15/ h is poor, so how much is fine? I thought about paying staff £10 per hour.

I pay time and a half  6-11pm then double time after that on weekdays.  At weekends I pay double time period after 6pm.  Based on your post your staff will earn £50 each per night gross and you will earn £100 per night Gross and 5hen you are going to pay for products????

you can pay what you want/they will accept

for nights time and a half would sound right, double time would be great, if theyre desperate maybe they will work for single time,

cant believe you run a business and are asking such basics, jesus

Thanks for replies.
I've never provided overnight cleaning before, I've asked for advice. What's the point asking if answer is : you don't know such basics?!
I've got idea about pricing now. Thanks.

I think you have taken it in the wrong context.  Trying to get an hourly rate is a personal thing and relates very much to a size of a company, location, travel time and its overheads.  For example if I were cleaning and  sealing a 100 M2 travertine floor locally I would probably be charging around £20 a M2 plus VAT where as a sole trader maybe able to do it for £10 a M2 or even less and still make good money.  This is because he has no staff, does not have to pay 30 Days holidays a year and probably no commercial premises!  Conversely if the floor were only 20M2 the M2 rate would be considerably higher.

The key to working out any price for any job is to calculate the Income first (Or Turnover figure) then the Gross Profit from a job and then calculate the Net Profit so in your case you are considering charging 15 Hours at £15 x 4 = £900 Income (Turnover) Then you are proposing to pay out £600 leaving you with £300 then take out the cost of Fuel, Van if you use one, cleaning materials and any employee contributions and what you are left with is your Net Profit less any personal tax & NI.  As a rule of Thumb and it doesn't always work use double the rate you intend to pay so if you pay £10 p/h charge £20 p/h + cost of materials.   This normally means you make a profit but every company is different.  So if you applied the above in your case and the materials cost you £100 your quote would be around £1300

I quoted last year £7350 + VAT for a job and a local sole trader quoted £2200 no VAT!!!   I got the work but I spent close to 50% more than the £2200 he quoted on materials and expenses just to do the work!

I hope this helps a bit more

Mate, look at how much profit there is ....it's minimal but if u wanting to pay £10 to ya staff u guna need be charging £20 to the customer, if it was an on goin thing then maybe but at the levels there mate I would just leave it to someone else.

If u think no am doing it then to make a profit u guna have toget the staff in £6.50 or less if cash in hand with it being one off its a lot if bother for little reward.
For over night cleaning staff at an event - so an event clean with cleaning goodies I would personally want £22 minimum but I have contract cleaning jobs that I get £13 ph but these give 50 hours plus every week so u take a hit on the cost with the bulk work
