I have never advertised in the YPs so don't know but am considering putting an advert in.

any advert can possibly work - you could spend countless money and not draw the line.

the knack is spending just enough and choosing wisely - your investment would be much better placed elsewhere than YP

Even though they're going down the pan they're prices are still too high.  They are not flexible in they're pricing structure which is not helping their down fall.

From what our local rep said they are putting the money into the online side of things... no good for those who like the paper version

Very low return from YP now and my argument with them is that although the return is falling they do not reflect this in their pricing.

Don't think I'm going to bother renewing and once you leave you never go back.

It's renewal time coming  up soon isn't it?

I've been looking forward to renewal because I want to strip out the book advertising bit.
I think it's worth keeping some form of online advertising with them if you have it because it helps the Google rank of your services. That's the only real reason I'm still with them. Just assistance to Google ranking, nothing else. When I told our rep this the other year he didn't like it- probably because he knew it was true.  Haven't heard from that one since!

Why invest in Yell advertising? Dont invest in directories to try to get you up Google - invest in your own site organically

Well I still get a decent return from my investment, I spend £325 a month and make approx £1200 most months so although I get less work than I did ten years ago it still works for me

just renewed my yell.com online advertising, in fact ive up it a tad, never bother with the actual book though.......
can imagine it lasting much longer......

Stuart - whats your average job value out of that?

Say its £100 per job - thats £325 divided by 12 = £27 per customer

Thats a high cost for each customer and then you have to deduct all other costs of the job. There are better ways to spend £325 per month

It's 25% of the job value  which I think it quite high, but each to their own. at least it totally Mainteneance free so require no further input you pay your money and that's it the phone rings.
