According to BBC news:

"The hotel's manager said he would be reviewing the use of the sanitiser which caused the problem.

"We use the sanitiser in corridors and public spaces to kill viruses and other bugs," said Steve Harris."

Probably a totally inappropriate product pushed by a janitorial supplier and used at the wrong dilution and in the wrong context would be my guess.

Some encapps have a very strong odour, bet it was one of them.

Paul did you not read what it said. It was a sanitiser they sprayed regularly to kill bugs and germs. Wouldn't surprise me if the porter had mixed some bleach in and created Chorine gas.

The average age of a guest in this hotel would be at least 75, I don't suppose this would of helped!

It's a real throwback to the 1940s.

They could have used a fogger with something like 429 which is a strong bug killer but if you breath it in- you will know about it!!
