Do you Disconnect the Di each time you start water production to loose the first five minutes of high tds water

Is it worth the time and hassle of doing this to save on resin

I do.
It does save resin.
No need to do it for 5 minutes though, just until tds settles down which is usually less than a minute when using a booster pump anyway.

yes  every batch I make .... ro in at 190 out at 19 ( need s replacing) ... best thing I did was go double di vessel 3 months ago ... only now just needing to switch em as 2nd di vessel now at 001 ... wait till it hits 003

I only disconnect when fitting a new mambrane as the water in the system has very relevance to the overall water produced 10 liter will have not effect on say 500 liter of pure, if the 10 lit had a higher tds.Go on now lets split hairs. ;D ;D ;D ;D

But if it goes through your DI on the way to the tank it will kill your resin quicker, if its tank then DI it wont be such an issue as you say mixed with 500 litres of almost pure.

Likewise.  I have a branch off into a 25 litre container.  I run the first few litres into that.  I have a tap leading to the DI (and eventually the tank) and a tap leading into the container.  I swear I will forget to switch them back one day and have a flood - but it hasn't happened yet :) .

Well there is always overkill I produce 1000 liters a week and only refill my double  1 liter di `stwice  year and am happy with my with my resin a 15  liter a year. Which I recycle, so very economical.

I go through the 4040 RO straight into the tank and then polish it off as needed, so no chance of contamination
and a supply of RO water if needed for FSG and conservatory roof cleaning at properties without a tap.
