Haven't tried it myself but you might be shooting yourself in the foot as you would more than likely have got the referrals
anyway ( family members, friends and neighbours ) if the customer likes your work.
Cant see anybody canvassing work for you for a free clean but who knows.

i have done similar in the past (more when i was starting out) basically i offered a free clean after the referral had and paid for 3 cleans. As Sean K says if a customer likes your work then there going to recommend you anyway especially to family & friends as they probably feel there doing a good turn for them anyway by recommending you.
From experience i don't think offering a free clean made any difference really so personally i wouldn't do it again.

ive never done a free clean for a customer in 22 years of window cleaning.

canvass and leaflet if you want more work is my advice and ask existing customers do they want f/s/g,conny roof and/or solar panels cleaning.

be as professional as you can be.do a good job,be reliable, offer different payment methods,be flexible on cleaning frequencies and you will pick up new work for sure over time.
price higher/work harder!

We always given customers who refer us a box of chocolates,  just to say thanks.

I tried it when I first started, offered 50% off next clean for referrals but never got anything.
Best way I have of gaining referrals is I had some fridge magnets made and gave one to every customer, now every one of my custy's (well those who put it on their fridge?) has an advert for my service on display in their kitchen.
had lots of work from them. Also made sure every business I clean has one on their filling cabinets!
turned out to be a very cheap advert that never stops working!
