softener before ro!
« on: April 28, 2006, 07:03:20 am »
I live in a hard water area(tds@380). Using an ro-man filter. I thought  I would need a softener before the filter but ro-man said ther was no need as the ro filter were designed to take a much higer tds with out problems. Any thoughts most welcome.

why go for a softner when an ro takes the hardness out! i am not wfp yet, but i cant see any point it may save a little work for your ro but the cost of maintaining the softner renders it pointless!  :P
i think  ???

If you dont soften the water the RO filter will not last as long and I bet the cost of replacing the RO filter is far cheaper than changing the softener! compare the prices!

you actually do not change the softener resin...once in place in a vessel, you flush it with a saltwater solution every 4-500litres which regenerates it. The salt is in 25kg bags and lasts about 2-3 months and costs about £15.
