Question for John Martin - as he seems to travel incognito all I know is he is from the fair city!

John - can I put an ametek single stage vac (model no: 117304-50) into a Prochem steampro porty with an existing three stage - i.e. can I wire them into the same connector inside and still only use the one power source that provides power for the pump and vac as designed.

Presumably they would then run off the same switch. As you may know the vac baseplate easily allows another vac to be added - just wondering about the current draw.

cheers

dave

You want to fit a 4.8" peripheral bypass motor ( presumably because u have it lying around )
I dont know the insides of the steempro very well ,  would you add be adding the second vac in series ( connected to the exhaust of the existing vac ...or is there a manifold already there to hook up another vac in parallel ?
anyway which ever it is ,  is the steempro existing vac a 1200w ? or a 1400w ...
the peripheral bypass is only about 3.5 amps so adding it should not trouble the  switch or cause tripping on startup of they run together from the same switch .

Its a heap of trouble just to add 200 airwatts ,  as an alternative you could just fit one 6.6 ...or one 1800w electro 5.7 and have  more power that u have now ...  or add a second three stage to your existing vac and have both of them start from the same switch using an inline softstart ( about £30 )

Hi John - thanks - yes I have it lying around and nearly new - ordered new pump and additional vac from WCS but vac was out of stock so thought I'd see if this spare one made a difference as below baseplate is channel and port to allow parallel mounting. Not sure on wattage of existing 3 stage - its an ametek 3 stage 117196-00

So looks as if its safe to put the 4.8" in alongside the 3 stage then? What should I attach the earth to for the 4.8"? Can the two black leads go into the terminal connector in the same holes as those feeding the two black wires going to the three stage?

Thanks for advice - will probably get the soft start and fit the additional three stage when it arrives! have sorted out the porty by renovating/cleaning all the parts and repainting baseplates etc. I use it for uph, back-up and for prespraying on larger jobs - will let you know how it goes - sure your interested! lol

I'd say thats a 1200w motor fitted ,  and really should have -13 ending for wet use , 00 for dry but might not matter much in reality .
I would hate to tell u its ok to wire up any thing with out seeing it , but its sounds like its ok as u describe . Might be good to disconnect the first vac while u test the second .
Earth .. there might be a small screw hole somehwere on the motor body u could attach a self taping screw or just anywhere on the metal body should be good .

This is the soft start i use , works well , simple to install .

Thanks John - that vac was fitted by Vacuums UK - a prochem agent based at Guildford.

Yes I tested and it works fine - have not tried wiring them into the same connector block mainly because I cant see how I can connect up the top end of the 2 vacuums to fresh air intake or how I can get both to vac from the waste tank - have to do some fresh thinking about that - there is plenty of space for another motor but then not much room to plumb all the outputs and fresh air supply and exhausts - must be blummin crowded with 2 vacs in there - not to mention noisy and hot
