Why would you think like that? 15 years building a successful business why would you be grateful, and to whom? You did the graft and worked hard and despite the set backs you're still pushing forward. I'd suggest you just tune your attitude a little take a positive look at what you've a achieved. Look at challenges ahead for the next 30 days and set yourself some goals, write them down and focus on them daily. Your brain is quite clever at figuring out ways to achieve what you want as long as it's realistic so trust your gut instinct, it's almost always right. Some might say it's rubbish but what you say to yourself is really important because in the end you will believe it, if you think you're "grateful working class scum" that's what you will be so you should certainly think better of yourself.

Good luck

Brendon how old are you? 35ish? If so you have 35 years of both external & internal influences that have told you that you are working class and should be grateful for what you have.  I bet you grew up in a working class home with working class parents.

Quick fixes won't work against years of negative programming. If you don't want to be 'working class scum' You need to stop acting like 'working class scum' ( I would stop using that term to describe yourself straight away, although I think you're using the phrase for dramatic effect)

Sit down and think of your little habits or traits that make you what you don't want to be........and one at a time change them.

it might be as simple as thinking a working class person is unshaven and slightly scruffy, if so make it a habit to shave every day and try and wear smarter clothes (clothes  that we all have in the wardrobe but feel slight conspicuous wearing  ;))

My favourite quote says it all.......

I think it is Offensive to call the Working Class Scum

Personally I would like to call The Irish Bankers  and World Speculators  and Property Developers who inflicted all this trouble and strife on the rst of us that but I wont.

You have a choice to make at 46 according to your profile , remain a successful tradesman white van man or sit yourself down and write a list of in an ideal world of what you want to acheieve

For Example Get out of carpet Cleaning and do other things

or Expand my Carpet Cleaning business

Hi Lads, thanks for all your kind words, the working class scum thing ,its just a saying that my mates and i use to describe normal bloke.Sorry for any offence.Just like to explain that i love what i do,shave everyday and uniformed. What i m talking about is trying to take the business to a new level. With the recession it kind of stagnated, but things seem to be picking up.Maybe hire someone to get me more large commercial jobs on commission basis, few of them, 2nd van. I could then drop off the cleaning and work on expanding the biz. This is the kind of advice or input i am looking for.I have a mate,5 years in biz and he has 15 vans working for him,not carpet cleaning. He can be a patronizing git,but he says or you a carpet cleaner who runs a biz,or a business man who carpet cleans, told you he was a git...

OK, here's some advice. It does not come from me but from someone I know who has started two (possibly three now) £ 100 million turnover businesses from scratch. He told me about twenty years ago and I wish I had taken more notice.

"You can hire someone to do everything in your business... apart from your marketing"
