Hi guys

For some reason the header tank keeps filling even after the demand ump has switched off? If I leave the truck mount running, waterspouts out of the hole in the header tank lid, even though the pump switched off. My guess is water is backing up, but as some of you know, I am useless with mechanics. I am sure it is something simple, but very annoying!!

It sounds like it is just the ballcock in the header tank not shutting off correctly, the water keeps coming out even after the pump is switched off is due to the pressurised accumulator under the transfer pump. Hope this helps.

How would I correct this? It seems to be causing the engine to shut down?

Remove the ballcock assembaly and check for any debris inside & condition of the rubber seal, clean out & refit, if it still leaks by then replace with a new one (available from many places). The leaking header tank shouldn't cause the machine to shut down unless water is getting into the wiring or the pump is running so much that it flatens the battery

I have had this happen on 2 blazers. The brass fitting on the ballcock arm. It can wear, so not closing properly. Get a little brass washer and cut one side and slide it on the ballcock swing arm , it will stop the ballcock rising to much.

Just buy a new ballcock from a plumbers merchant and then cut the arm down and rethread it, I brought one a while back and it was about £6 or £7 not worth trying to bodge it up.

You can usually fix this problem for a few pence - the ballcock cut-off has a valve with a plastic (usually) feed which meets a very small hard plastic pad that get dented and hence let water past it can be slipped out of its holder and replaced with a new one which will literally cost a few pence - may not need to replace complete ballcock assy
