Hi guys
Going to look at a Xmas day accident tomorrow where a childs toy overheated and left melted rubber or plastic on the sofa.
Really keen to get a result, as always, and wondered if anyone has come across anything similar.

I have removed a similar stain from carpet before using just citrus gel and eco x  from cleansmart.

Thanks for that, I have those products and was going to try the liquid gel, I've added an image and it looks quite nasty so might just walk if it looks too bad...

Let the custy know there is no guarantee that the stains will shift, state your price and let them make the decision. That's what I generally do anyway. It wouldn't take too much of a test to see if it will work or not though. Make sure you test the fabric first though as if its a viscose pile it may distort. It doesn't look like it from here but you cant be too careful.

Went yesterday and had great success transfering to cotton buds but couldn't seem to get rid totally. I used Acetone, POG, Liquid Gel.

Is it normal to be able to remove so much but not all of a stain such as this?

My final throw of the dice was Dye Gone which didn't improve things at all!

Any help/advice very welcome and much appreciated

Its difficult to tell without testing the fabric myself. If it is an absorbent fiber you may have removed what was siting around the fibers and left what has absorbed into the fiber. Have you been able to flush it well? Also if it was melted rubber has the heat itself damaged the fabric at all. If it was an absorbent fiber the heat would have aided in fixing the stain buy opening it up and allowing the "stuff" to  get in. This may be the best you can do.

Is the discoloration around the stain from water or caused by the stain spreading as you have been loosening it. Dye Gone will probably not work as it is it works by controlled bleaching and this is probably not effective on this type of stain

A little hydrogen peroxide may help to lighten it a bit.........

It's a chenille, on close inspection it seems the stain has been completely removed from the pile but remains in the backing. The discolouration around the stain is, as you suggest, the stain spreading on loosening. I cleaned the whole arm with fabric restorer before I left and rinsed with fib fab rinse

There were two simililar spots on one step of the wool stair carpet which I treated the same and also could not be fully removed, expectations weren't high for these, being on wool

It's probably my lack of experience which allows me to feel slightly defeated when stains aren't completely removed, but I'm sure as I learn and improve my techniques I will have a more realistic outlook on these things!

Customer skiing, back next week so when I've spoken to them I might put a quick post on but meanwhile thanks for your help and advice
