Is 40/40 worth it
« on: January 05, 2015, 07:15:59 pm »
All i need is 500ltrs a week on a full round, I work 50/trade 50 wfp so will only need 1000 ltrs if all done on wfp.
My question is, would a 40/40 system be worth investing in? We would all like one but it does cost a lot and would like to know if for what I use it would be worthwhile.
Thanks in advance

Steve

Get a 450gpd and produce into an ibc so you can store your water
Submersible pump to transfer your water to van

Job 's a good'un
Why don't you have a quick google before making stupid comments?

+1 on Don Kee

If you're on a water meter, a 40/40 will probably save you a minimal amount that will be offset by the cost of purchase.
You won't break even for over a year I'd say, as a very rough guess.
On the plus side, if you get a 40/40 it'd see you to retirement without changing any filters :D

Im saving about a ton a year by using less resin with my 4040 than I was with my previous 400 gpd ro.
And it produces water 3-4 times faster.
Get one and then you will wonder why you never bought one before.
The smaller ro's are kiddie toys in comparison.  ;)

How much water do you produce a day?

You havn't said whether you have a static holding tank or if you need to fill directly onboard your vans tank. Even a 1000 liters a week if 100% wfp on a full round seems frugal to me. Do you anticipate taking on more work ? What set up do you use at the moment ? whats the tds of your supply ? so many variables to consider to give an informed answer.
A 4040 may be over the top for you but then again it could speed up production for you, reduce resin costs and give scope for an increase in pure production to expand your round or if you plan to employ. without wishing to sound rude, we cannot know the answer only you will.

I used a 4040 up until now ( the membranes now shot )
My round isnt huge , probably 400 liters per day, but I live in a flat with hard water and street parked so needed to fill my tank quickly, and even then I had to wait hours some times of an evening to gain a parking space close enough to my flat to fill up for the next days work. I could fill my tank in less than 2 hours so for me it was worth it. However the parking situation had started to dictate my working life and free time after a full days work so much so that until I move the ro is now being shelved and I am buying water from a mate.
My point is your personal circumstance will affect your decision.
