I hate auto cars because I drive them sporty and want full control. Van! I would consider an auto box. No clutch to screw up. If its a new ish van...go for it. They use more juice!!!

Not my cup of tea but Auto 'Boxes and 4x4 works extremely well in the snow - for that one week in the year...

Ive got a tiptronic 'box on the car (essentially an auto)
I love it. Its good for in traffic.
If you're carrying weight all the time you'll want a really good auto.
Google for known problems, is about all you can do...
Id imagine if its gonna go wrong it'll cost more than a manual 'box.
That's about the only negative i can see with it.

Auto's have come on massively lately, I was never a fan of them but after driving one for six months I now hate manuals lol I mean what's the point in constantly changing gear when you can get the motor to do it and you can just relax, what van is it as I would love an auto van.

i like modern day auto's to drive, generally most are nice and smooth these days but personally as an ex peugeot mechanic and the amount of auto boxes we had to replace i wouldnt buy any auto myself, way too expensive when they go wrong and with modern boxes a lot of back street garages dont want to get involved as theyre more specialist jobs.
i had a mate with a merc sprinter and in the 5 years he had it, it had 3-4 replacement gearboxes under warranty.
i remember peugeots auto gearbox warranty returns department at coventry when i went on training courses, they was always stacks of them out back!!
if your going to buy one just make sure theres no leaks and every gear change is smooth and go through them all inc the manual option if it has it.
good luck ;)

I know that VW do the Caddy/Caddy Maxi with the DSG gearbox! Also, even a 4motion version which I quite fancy as I'm a sole trader!!

From what I've heard and seen here, if you go auto, it's best to have the best motor to avoid any probs. So a Trafic, with 150BHP is the only model Renault I'd go for. Id do a lot of motorway miles though, so don't really need it, even though I'm lazy, and love auto  ;)

SNAP Cozy, 2.5 version! Best engine too, doesnt suffer from sticking injectors either.  ;D

I had that van.
Turbo went at 92k.
Liked the power though.

When there's some prat getting impatient behind you and starts hanging on your bumper, you can just give it the beans and leave a lot of them behind, wondering what just happened.  ;D ;D

The new twin clutch gearboxes are amazing. I've got a 7 speed dsg in my car and I couldn't do a better job if I tried. It also means the engine won't have been caned. Only concern would be difficulty reverse parking on hills, much easier with a clutch.

Easier without clutch, vehicle doesnt roll with auto. Much easier when full of water etc.

My car is auto and works beautifully but a van I'd keep simple. Its a work hack

Old vans no chance, but new ones are the dogs danglies. Whats more simple than put in drive, no clutch. If financially i had to get an older van i probably wouldnt bother with auto, but auto vans now are something else. Plus the other half drives auto only.
