Your thoughts on hose reels for hot water.

In particular, your experience with the consequences of hose expansion challenging the durability, design, construction and the materials used therein.

What are our options?

for me a redashe koreel reel or anything else thats robust will do.ive found thermobore plus red hose from gardiners the best hot water hose.its a bit heavier than my standard hose (spring/summer standard microbore) but its nice and tough and doesnt kink with hot water pumping through it.
price higher/work harder!

So far for me the best hose suitable for hot water all day long is the 8mm hi vis from purefreedom. Great quality, very good price.

What do you mean by 8mm, Richard?

8mm inner diameter hose. A local hose supplier tried selling me the same stuff for 97 plus vat.

A bit of ambiguity here, Nick.  Are you asking about the effects on the hose of the expansion, or on the hose reel?

Does the hose actually expand?  I would have thought the heat merely softened it, but then perhaps the water pressure would cause it to expand?

What method are you using to heat the water and do you use a controller mate

You need to balance the controller with the hose expansion. Trouble is digital controllers can't be recallibrated on the fly so if your hose is ballooning where the water is rather hot you can't back the pressure down fast enough. If you've got a cheap plastic reel the hose can crush it. Normal metal reels seem ok but might need a couple of rods through them if the pressure is high or the sides bow outwards.

Yes, sorry about that Ian, I should have made my question more clear.

I was enquiring about the hose reel.

I was under the impression that there was in fact enough hose expansion when subjected to the usual heat and pressure to warrant concerns over the design and construction of the hose reel.
