Does anyone with a Yard /Unit/ Lock up actually use one of these.
I have just had a rather large water bill come in and the sewerage charge is
another 90% of that. Just had a conversation with Anglian Water who say if I fit
I sub meter to prove what water is not being sent back to sewerage then my bill
will be adjusted accordingly.

I have an external usage meter installed, free, i dont pay sewerage on this meter:-)

All our franchisees have them, though Southern Water are utterly, totally and completely incompetent when it comes to coping with non return to sewer, so I don't know what refunds we're going to get against our bills.  Anglian Water seem a little more capable so you should be OK.

One thing that's important is to get a meter rated at the right sort of throughput.  No point getting one calibrated to 10,000 litres per hour if you're putting 200 litres an hour through it.

We use: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Water-meters-flow-cold-water-new-/320581365642 which are calibrated at 1,500 litres per hour, which is about right for us.

Richard what is an external usage meter ?

Vin re the calibration bit are you saying you produce 1500ltrs an hour ? or you have 1500ltrs pulled from mains
every hour?

it is something supplied by my local water company, it is a meter fitted to the source where we fill van from, as no water returns to sewer we dont pay the sewerage on the cubic meters of water that have passed through it. It saves a fair amount of money, as sewerage is 3 times the cost of water.

Not to urinate on your bonfire but I think they will want every penny of your bill you've just got.
The sub-meter will only be able to be used on future water bills.
Found that out to my detriment.

It's about 800L/hr from the mains, so it's in the right order of magnitude.

Good point.  If you're lucky, they'll backdate to when you first mentioned it to them.

I supplied and fitted my own sub meter in my drive before my outside tap.
On day of fitting I took reading from southern waters meter and the meter i fitted .
Forgot to say prior to this I filled in a non return to sewer form.
After taking readings and forwarding to southern water I have not heard a thing,which is not suprising as per other posts from guys in southern water areas
