« on: April 12, 2006, 11:37:14 pm »
Hi all

I have a 100gpd ro unit and i am thinking of getting an upgrade to produce more water, is this a good idea? or would i be better just going for a merlin?

Any thoughts

thanks in advance

Think it's about 455litres (UK)

4.54609 litres = 1 gallon(UK)

3.785 litres = 1 gallon(US)

Which would make it 378.5litres(US)

Not sure if RO gpd is in UK or US

100gpd is a nominal production figure.

Realistically depending temp. and pressure we get between 300-400 litres per day.

A simple upgrade is to buy a second membrane to add on, this would up production to about 600 litres per day, it would also reduce waste ratio

Hi Sesutton,

This is a very straightforward upgrade, fits in about 5 minutes, it will double your output and reduce your waste ratio by up to 50%.

We will be happy to supply this to you when we re-open after our vacation on 1st May.

Although you say its a 100GPD system my bet is its not putting out anything like 100 gallons in 24hours. They never do. They also all produce a lot more waste than they are supposed to.

This is because the inlet pressure is too low.

The cheapest upgrade is just to fit a booster pump to zap up the inlet pressure which greatly increases the amount of  good water you get out the other end. And it cuts down the % waste as well.
A pump is about £78 from Ro-man and a pressure gauge about a tenner.

But first you have to do some measurements to work out how much you are producing now and then talk to Ro-man to see if a pump will make enough difference to justify the money.

I like you started with the 100 , then got the upgrade to 200 , worked fine but the water preseure was a bit low so got the pump , now works fine the pump makes a lot of differance - but adding the cost's up , It would be cheaper to get the merlin in the first place  :(

so if i was doing it again I'd get the merlin

I get a 1-pure to 1 waste with a 200gallon with the pump at 100psi , if this helps Matt
without the pump its more like 1 pure to 2-3 waste  :o at tap 40psi pressure
