Hi guys
Did a cream 80/20 split yesterday and had a call today that two of the sofa legs bed dye on to carpet
Whats best to get this out

tut tut, you should have put some blocks or sticky tabs under the feet then you wouldnt have this problem
so now you've been well and truly told off...i find rust remover very good at getting these sort of marks out, try and spotter and flush first because it might just rinse out

I really wish I could find some thing that's really good at taking them out!!
If I,m honest never had the greatest success with wood stain migration, sod met is always my last resort .

Wood dye can be difficult. Foil tabs buy now before anything else.

Stains can be removed but bleaching is a last resort and not something that can be taught to a novice in a post. Get some training before you do any more damage to peoples possesions, people that have put their faith in you as a so called professional.
 It depend on the fibre content etc  It would probably be worth your while if you want a satisfied customer to employ somebody who is proficient with bleaching to sort it out for you, as you do not practice on your customers furnishings.

How did you respray and with what ?

Peter is correct in what he says.
Perfect results for this depend on what the carpet is made up of.
Irrespective of what training courses advised - it took me ca a year of experimentation to discover how to solve this problem on all the different types of carpet make ups.

Should I advise how to do it on here - no - why should I.  In any business, you have to put in the work to achieve  the results that put you ahead of the rest

I understand that Simon, I just don't see why someone would say basically "well I know how to do it, but I'm not telling you", because you havnt been doing it long enough.

Why not just say nothing?

Unfortunately these types of stains can sometimes be permanent. Reducing agents such as Spray & Go can work if its a tannin stain from the wood. If its a varnish or stain transfer then Citrus Gel or POG may remove the bulk of it.
You would be surprisedhow many cleaners don't use foils or blocks.

I had it last year.

Customer had removed the foil tabs from under her bed side cabinets  soon after I left, she admitted. I managed to remove them with sodmet and a hot hairdryer. Took several attempts but all gone.

Also managed to remove red dye from old leather hardback books that where placed on a Laura Ashley rug to stop it from curling (by the customer) after I cleaned it. Several large red dye stains removed using the same method.

If my above post annoyed you, then I am sorry and quite happy to apologise.

My understanding has been that this forum is for professional carpet cleaners. Now I accept that we all have to start at one stage - but the poster who raised the issue, I see has been a member since 2008 - 6 years and he hasn't learned the fundamental that you don't place a piece of unsealed wood on a carpet that you have just HWE cleaned without some form of protector.   How serious let alone professional is he about the business? - yet he comes on here and expects to be told how to solve a problem he has created through his own negligence or possibly disinterest in the business

this forum is often a pain, I do not have any service to sell to anyone on here, get trained, you cannot become a pro from reading this forum or watching videos on face book. The problem that you have created is much bigger than the job you first took on.

I always either use foil or blocks but About 10yrs ago I presprayed a carpet then pulled the settee forward to clean behind it, when I pushed it back not only did it leave  dye stains where it stood but also left a long smear where the feet slid along the carpet as I pushed it back.

Luckily it rinsed out emediatly

the instant colour left by furniture will rinse immediately - i have found dark veneered wood the worst for this

the best thing to do if you suspect the furniture to have really loose dye is to use carpet skidders to move it

then move it back with the skidders and just lift each foot off the skidder when its back in place and put the block under immediately so the foot never touches the damp carpet

where its going to to tricky to get a block under after the furniture is in place, use sticky tabs on the back feet before you slide it back with the skidders on the front feet

Still find craftex rust remover good at this sort of stain, but furniture sliders, furniture blocks and sticky tabs ( not foil) then at least if the custy moves the furniture  before it's completely dry there is more chance of the sticky tabs remaining at the bottom,  but take the time to put blocks/ tabs cause it's a lot less hassle than a call back, also a furniture lifter( mines a lift buddie) makes it sooooo much easier to get the sliders/ blocks/ tabs on in the first place

I just got back from the cleansmart advanced spot and stain removal course with Derek Bolton which I got free with my Airflex. For anyone struggling with any stains particular stains which require bleaching I would highly recommend it. Derek has some really interesting and different ideas about using reducers and oxidisers. This post just made me think how useful this info was.

You are right I have been on this forum 6 yrs and running a family cleaning company for 21 yrs now
And again you are right I should have had foils down .actually I did have foils down but wether it was me that didn't cover all the foot or the customer repositioning sofa afterwards im not sure.its the first time its happened so I have no experience in the best way to remove it .but thought perhaps someone would hence the question. Im not in the habit of practicing on customers belongings and as 20+ yrs in the business shows we always strive to do our best for the customer even asking advice from our peers
