Fabric Softener Stain on Carpet
« on: November 12, 2014, 06:40:06 pm »
Hi all, member for a while...first time query..any ideas on removing what we are 99% sure is Comfort fabric conditioner. I use Prochem Steampro, micro split, hot water, PopOut stain remover from Altech, Traffic Lane, Biological Liquid and of course plenty of rinsing with plain water. The carpet is contract cord directly onto concrete and the stain run a good 25" along a corridor. 5 attempts but it keeps coming back just as strong.....any ideas?
Much obliged in advance

Hi Stuart, thanks for the reply. The actual stain is dead and produces almost no suds on extraction so does the defoam have some cleaning quality  in itself? I was convinced that it was oil spillage until the House Manager did some investigation ( not too difficult as the trail leads right to a Flat door!) each time I'm convinced it's gone but back it comes and it's not even fading!

Hi Glenn

You might try flooding it with cold water and some soda crystal or even use a acid rinse .

Because I'm idle when it comes to stains I find the best approach is to say " nah , that will never come out " 90% of the time they say don't worry about it or just try your best . I've spent far to much time messing with stains . If it takes you a hour you could of earnt upto £80 on another job or done some advertising that could of made you £100s your TIME is valuable and limited don't waste it unless it makes you happy or your going rate

Flood it with buckets of warm water and extract maybe 2 or 3 times. Should remove it. It just appears that you aren't removing all the residual conditioner which is very concentrated. Don't be afraid of over wetting contract cord. Would be best to get it dry if possible using airmovers.

Hello, thanks for the feedback. I've uploaded a couple of before and after pics of just a small section of the staining. What I used in the end was a citrus oil based cleaner called Viro-sol made by Clover Products, it cost me about £5 for 5lts and I used it neat, flooded, scrubbed, picked up, repeat and it worked! A week later the stain hasn't reappeared although I have advised that it may return in time with prolonged traffic. Everyone happy! also Viro-sol is amazing at cleaning alloy wheels......so I also have gleaming wheels on my van!
Thanks again
