Anyone got a rough idea of replacing heat exchangers on boxxer or can they be re-conditioned?

If it is an ambient, one the kind that the exhaust blowers thru small radiators? Or a water to water hx?

The water is coming out of the big exhaust but heat is not affected that much, I've tried switching the divert button but it doesn't seem to affect the amount of water coming out

Which exhaust is the water coming out of the big one in the middle or the small one on the right?

The 421 doesn't have a water to water exchanger as it's an air cooled engine.
It has a blower pre heater which is under the machine ( machine out job to remove ) and an engine exhaust exchanger which is at the left side of the machine ( easily accessible ).

Iv'e just deciphered your words Steve, you say water is coming out of the big exhaust, this  "big" exhaust as you call it is used when the machine is in Heat mode i.e. undivert mode or full heating is being produced, if this is the case you probably have a pin hole leak in the coil within the heat exchanger and it's being blown out of the exit pipe.
This is sometimes caused by freezing in the past. In your case with that machine it will be almost if not impossible to repair due to the arrangement of the coil which is within the casing.

I agree with Glynn on which hx I had the same problem with my 421 when I first got it, hm replaced it within no time at all although it was under warranty.

Gp cleaners quoted about £1000 to replace heat exchanger but with 6000 hours on machine hardly worth it

You could divert around it that's what I did on my 427 while hx was getting repaired it'll take longer for the water to get warm but you'll not dump any in theean time.
