I have an idea regarding the hosepipe ban, as you know it does not effect all areas (mine included in Southampton) even though I’m supplied by southern water.
If this comes into effect then why not find yourself a friendly fellow w/c not in the infected areas and ask him if he would supply you with the water to carry on your business.

Of course you’re not going to travel all those miles to fill your tank up however, should you be caught using wfp your friendly mate (from the north or wherever) is going to vouch that you purchased the water from him therefore not breaking any hosepipe bans.

I’m sure you get my drift? Surely there is enough of us on these forums to help each other out.

A hosepipe ban does not affect any tradesmen - Its a drought order that potentially will.

Hosepipe ban - domestic
drought order - domestic AND commercial.

Get your drift though, but IMHO its customer perception that is potentially one of the main sticking points.

I had that thought myself J.
I'm up for fakin an invoice or two.  But like was mentioned above.........customer perception is gonna be the killer. Saying that, people are ultimately pretty selfish. What i mean by that is that they'll turn a "blind eye" cos they're still getting their windows cleaned. It's the neighbours that we'll have to bung

I'm just wondering what I would do if I turned up at a drought order hearing with other window cleaners to plead for an exemption, and one of the other side's representatives gave me a print out of this thread.
I'm not so sure it's a good idea having this thread on a public forum.

It seems that we have the same goals.  However, when a drought order gets implemented, it will become illegal to use water from the affected area on a banned activity. I'm not disagreeing with you.  Just questioning whether it's a good idea to be so public about it.

I think the water companies have thought about tradesmen saying that their water comes from somewhere else.

The ban is not for the using of the water, but for using water to carry out that particular job regardless of where the water comes from.

Ross.  I thought that too.  However, at the Sutton & East Surrey drought order application hearing, the water board guy specifically stated that importing water from outside the drought area was OK.  He also stated that they are able to analyse the water to ascertain whether or not it is from their area and that any offenders would be prosecuted.  RO'd water still has a small TDS so I've no idea whether or not they would be able to analyse such a sample with accuracy.  It would probably not be viable for me to travel a 150+ mile round trip every other day to collect what would probably be tap water, so I may start ignoring the Working at Height Directive and revert back to the ladder for all my jobs.  At least a full van mount would last me a few weeks if I reverted to bucket and squeegee. I could pump it into the bucket by disconnecting just before the DI unit as thgis would save me burning out the resin with tap water.  What a choice eh?  I only want to earn an honest living and I'm faced with a choice of which law to break in order to do so.  I've got opinions on this situation but if I expressed them on this forum in the manner that I feel them, the post would be deleted anyway.
