RO/DI set up in shed.
« on: April 03, 2006, 07:12:57 pm »
My old wfp Escort van died a death some time ago. Before it went all my filters etc were stripped out (obviously) and put in to temporary storage. Finally got a new van (Citroen Berlingo) and am now setting up my wfp again. I am changing the way I set it up though. Previously I had everything installed in the van, now I am setting up the filters in my shed, filling a tank/water butt (not sure which yet), then filling 25l jerrycans which will then be used to fill my backpack which is coming this week. Following me so far? I'm confusing myself! What I need to find out is this:

1. Is it ok to run the water through the ro and di and then put it in to the storage tank, or best to run it through the ro in to the tank and then pump it through the di in to the jerrycans. I was hoping to avoid having to use a pump as we have very good mains pressure here and assume that option 2 would require some sort of pump.

2. How long does pure water stay pure when stored?

Any pointers will be appreciated, and I will endeavour to post some pictures of what hopefully will be a very neat set up.

Ps. I have got about 20 spare 25l jerrycans (or will have when I pick them up on Thursday). They will need a rinse out. If anyone is interested let me know. They'll be about £4-5 + delivery (will find out from PO what it will cost to send them this week)
Cheers

Ken,

It's fine to RO/DI your water at the same time and store it in a water butt/tank and it'll stay pure almost indefinately.

This is from experience and from reading many similar posts as your own asking a similar question.

Are you the 'Ken' who used to clean Oakfield Avenue in Chepstow?

Cheers Tosh. You don't use a pump to transfer your water then? I'm hoping gravity will do it for free! As regards Oakfield Avenue, for my sins I am one and the same. Used to live in Ross so the drive wasn't too bad, moved to Cheltenham and it just got a bit too much. A friend of mine was supposed to carry on with the round and pay me "some" cash. That was a year ago and I haven't heard from him since! He is a bit of a space cadet, mind. I should have chased him up (my wife has "urged" - a much nicer word than "nagged" don't you think?- me to pursue it) but I just haven't bothered! I did find that estate depressing for some reason...

Marcus: water proof your van! When I was getting mine welded up they could hear water boiling in the sills!

In march I had loads and loads  of extra work to do more than any other month in the year. I still have £550 still to do as the weather held me up.

Hows Tony Mannings Dad?

I may have some work if your interested?

Ted is a tough old stick. It looked really bad (REALLY bad) but now he's chatting away and seems to be on the mend. Crazy!
Work-wise if you have some to put our way that would be handy! Just waiting to get my new backpack and then off we go. Email me on ken.long@hotmail.co.uk or give us a call on 07866 563607. I'm on Bulls Hill tomorrow if you're about.
