I have noticed some people apply lacquer to sections of a wearing carbon fibre pole..

1) Does this prolong the life?
2) What lacquer

The key is todo it properly.

Have many more planned just time. Doing one on my next van.

I replaced my clamps on  two Mk 1 sl-x's. Last 5 inches of each pole section I sprayed with a primer, then a yellow coat of paint and finished off with a lacquer. Nice visible sign of pole reaching its extended length without flying out when extending the sections as the three layers of paint have raised the wall diameter like insulation tape would and I can clearly see I've reached the limit.

If you don't do it right with laquer it will chip off IMO better off using the PTFE spray that Gardiners sell . Mike

We found Gunk engine laquer from Halsfords at £5.99 worked fine. Just a couple of thin coats.

If you get a run just let it dry and then carefully sand the ridge away.

A few people have said it chips and cracks.

I don't understand why that happens? 

Rub down.

Clean pole with alcohol rub.

Let it dry.

Paint it lol

Thin coats and jobs a good un.
