Builders' Dust in Carpet Tiles
« on: May 09, 2014, 05:37:23 pm »
Tomorrow I have to do some landings and about 40 stairs of a 3-storey office building where the top floor has been converted to apartments. The builders have been up and down the stairs for the last 6 months.

I haven't done one like this before. Obviously a good vac, but I'm wondering if it's worth pre spraying or if I'd be better just flushing it through? Also not sure on the solution temp / best chemical. If I was going to do a single pass I was thinking of using Liquid High Heat.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers

Probably not relevant but I did one last year laid on laminate and the house had undergone extensive renovation. A cream, off white colour polypropylene and soon as I extracted the carpet turned black. Absolutely horrendous.

I'd go with Simon and test test test!

That's the danger when cleaning very dusty carpets, they can turn black, or look very much worse because the carpet is choked with dust. So do a test patch on the worst area, when you find a technique to get that clean then the rest should be easy.

A pile lifter would be ideal here. But I have done loads of these types of jobs and never had any problems.

I would say a good heavy pre-spray would help to clump the dirt together before extraction.

Worst I had was full of plaster, after a while it was confirmed as totalled.
