running costs

as anyone ever tried to work out the exact running cost per mile for their van. Its not just diesel used but engine wear , tyre wear etc. I have a transit and I have often wondered about how much it actualy costs me to get to a customers house.

Well the government have calculated it at 45p per mile for the first 10,000 miles and 25p thereafter, think that's a pretty good starting point.
I use this method to account for my vehicle expenses rather than using actual receipts for diesel, repairs, insurance etc, just record all mileage for each job / journey.

If you use an accountant they should have itemised your motoring expenses in your yearly report. If you have this information divide the amount by the rough amount of miles you did in that period and it should give you quite an accurate idea. You will also need to take into consideration any finance or depreciation on the vehicle as well, this should also be itemised. If you cant get this information from your accountant sack them and get another one.
