£650 plus VAT for (what I recon is 4 - 4.5 hours worth of work) one man, and the company was going to use two operators and a TM.

Bog standard black ceramic tiles, just laid  4 days ago so brand new. The owner needed them cleaned as there was quite a bit of grout on the tiles and dust from workmen. They didn't need honed or polished etc. Wasn't a huge place, again 4 -5 hours worth of work I'd guess.

Is grout that hard to remove? heavy rotary, green or red pad, maybe an acidic cleaner, a wet vac... am I thinking along the right lines?

Is that not a bit excessive? I mean good going if you can get it but they didn't get it this time lol

Not always as straight forward to remove as you think what grout was it polymer modified? Epoxy? Are they definitely ceramic tile? Area size?

Area size I'd be guessing as I am rubbish at eye balling rooms and giving accurate sizes. I'll txt the owner and find out. Its a restaurant but not huge.

I have no idea what's in the grout. And that leads me to the next question, shouldn't the workmen that laid the tiles not be held accountable for leaving all the grout on the tiles?

I've txted the chap about the size but he's not replying. Probably in the middle of service.

I also said he should seek compo from the workmen. Stupid fat bob the builder look a like he was too.

The problem is a lot of floor tiling is done by jobbing builders.
It's amazing that a customer will spend a small fortune on top range tiles but employ a knuckle dragger.

I have lost count of the amount of travertine/natural stone tiles with grout framing usually from not sealing before grouting. They can look a right mess but do the customers complain, do they eck, us Brits are just too dam nice!

That's exactly who laid them, a jobbing builder. He was there when I quoted the night before.

Its a pitty they've done the place out really nice. But almost £800 for a clean, the owner is probably thinking I got them installed for less lol

This type of work cant be done without a sample clean to figure out best method.

It can go the wrong way quite quickly on something that you would think is quite straight forward.

A TM wouldnt do much tbh for grout haze it will all be about the chemical break down and the right agitation..

Grout Haze removal can be simple using the right chemicals in the right order provided you identify the type of grout.  On the other hand I have attended grout removal jobs where four or five companies have tried and failed.  As Jamie says don't try and blag it because you could end up with egg on your face.  Do a test area first on the worst part to ascertain you can remove it.  Incidentally regarding price 4 years ago I charged a customer over £7K + VAT to remove grout haze from 262M2 of through bodied porcelain just laid in a public building.  We started at 3pm on the Friday and completed it at 8pm on the Monday night that was 4 guys who worked a total of 36 hours each over a Bank Holiday Weekend.
