Resi-neck problem and possible solution ⛔🔙
« on: April 07, 2014, 05:43:52 pm »
Trying to remove the resi neck from an SLX today, found it to be seized (as normal).  Using brute force and ignorance we managed to snap the head off it, so we now have a pole section with about an inch of Resi-neck hanging out of it - stuck as fast as if it were Araldited  Anyone any idea of how to remove the damned thing?  I'm close to cutting it flush and drilling it out but if there's an easier way, I'd like to know.

Fortunately I had a spare pole section (we were cleaning my house when it happened, luckily enough) so that's now on.  In a bid to stop the Resi-neck seizing again, I put a smear of Copaslip on it before fitting - hoping it'll stop the seizures in future and, not being oil-based, shouldn't damage any bonding agents in the carbon fibre.  I'll post on whether it works long-term.

Any ideas welcome (throwing the section off a cliff is high on the list at the moment).

Hi Vin

Drop me an email with a photo so I can see what is the current situation is and then give you some advice on removal.

I would imagine that this is an older Resi-Neck?

As a general rule if this ever happens to anyone there are two methods that the girls in the Workshop use which always gets the Resi-Neck out:

1. Remove the top part of the Resi-Neck leaving only the bottom part in. Put an adjustable spanner on to the top part and adjust so that it is tight. Then using the spanner twist the Resi-neck in the top section. This will usually twist the part out of the top section.

2. Heat the Resi-Neck part and the top clamp with a hair dryer on full heat until it is very warm and then twist out.

What if I'm bald? :)

Girls in the workshop? Whatever next?

Some of my resi necks have been murder tight. I sand them down a bit when I get a bad un.

Same as Dave, I file mine to take off any high spots and use silicone grease to prevent any sticking together.

Alex, hope you don't mind but are the slx 25' s defo in stock tomorrow, need another ASAP ( getting that desperate I even looked at the aquadaptor and Phoenix poles 😳)

Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience
